Objectives

Your goals for this week are:

1. Explain theories of the origin of the earth, atmosphere, and oceans.

  • Describe development of our solar system, earth, atmosphere(s), and oceans
  • State the basic outline of the Geologic Column or Time Scale from 4.6 billion years ago to today
  • Explain radiometric dating and geo time scale
  • Explain Absolute and Relative Dating

2. Describe the development of ocean knowledge from early voyages to modern times

  • Understand diversity of sciences collected to form " oceanography"
  • Understand development of oceanography as a science
  • Understand significance of navigation in describing oceans and making maps
  • Recognize the different types of Maps and Charts
  • Work with Latitude and Longitude, Time, Navigation
