Adding Films on Demand videos to your Canvas Site
A comprehensive collection of high-quality educational videos licensed from a long established educational media distributor. Nearly 7000 videos cover a wide range of topics organized into 5 broad subjects. Individual segments subdivide each video into discrete shorter units.
The interface allows searching by title, by keywords in segments, browsing titles alphabetically, and browsing or searching within the subject areas.
The default playback for videos in this collection is Flash. Users also can select playback in Windows Media or QuickTime. Playback on PCs running Windows software allows changing the size of the video display and selecting a different playback bit rate.
Many of the titles in the collection have closed-captioning. Use the Advanced Search function to limit search results to titles with closed-captioning.
All titles in this collection have a distinct Playlist URL for linking in syllabi, Canvas, or other web pages.
Connect to Films on Demand Links to an external site. - it will take a few moments to connect to the service.
Note: when students click a link like the example below, they will be prompted to login, which will take them to the general Films on Demand page. If the return to Canvas and click the link again, they will see the video it directs them to.
Step-by-step instructions
After locating your video in the Films on Demand database, copy the full URL.
Using the page editor in Canvas: add text on your page, select that text, and then click the link icon in the toolbar.
Paste the link you copied from Films on Demand in the window that pops up, click "Insert Link".
The text will change color to blue. Click "Save Page" to save your changes.
