Grammars

Our texbook, A Gentle Introduction Old English, has a website with some excellent resources to support your learning of Old English. You'll find clickable versions of four of the reading texts from the book ("clickable" meaning that you can click on any word and get its meaning and grammatical status), audiofiles for the texts, and extensive grammatical exercises that supplement the ones in the book. For most of them, you can get the correct answer by clicking a button. Also, be sure to look at the link at the bottom of this page, "Old English at the University of Calgary (Links to an external site.)," which has similar resources for further practice, including Lessons (Prof. McGillivray's own course material, much of which has made it into the textbook), Grammar (an excellent overview of Old English grammar, including paradigms), and Texts (all clickable, and more numerous than what's on the main Gentle Introduction page).

Other Old English Materials

These can be very helpful to the beginning Old English student. Several of them include online exercises, which are great if you want more practice. You will also find sound files to help you pronounce the language, pictures to help with basic vocabulary, flash card drills, etc.
