Follow these steps:

Where to find your assignment:

  1. They can always be found in "Assignments" on left navigation bar.
  2. They may also be in a "Module".
  3. At the bottom of your course home page or syllabus page in the syllabus calendar.

From the "Assignments" page, click on the assignment to turn in.

  • Note that the "Upcoming Assignments" on the right will also help you find the assignment you need to turn in today.

Once you’ve opened the assignment, click “Submit Assignment” on the right side of the screen.

  • If you don’t see this option, it is possible that this assignment does not require an online submission, or that the due date for the assignment has passed and is thus closed for submission.

  • If this is a group assignment, be sure that only one student submits the assignment.  If more than one student submits the assignment, the latter submission will overwrite the former.

Your professor will designate what type of submission you will upload, but the options available are:

  1. File Upload - The professor will designate the file type to be uploaded.
  2. Text Entry - You will type your answer into a text box provided by Canvas.
  3. Website URL - the address of a website.
  4. Media - An audio/video recording.
  5. Google Docs - You will select the document from your Google Drive account.

Most often, you will be uploading files.  To start that process, click "Choose File".

Similar to attaching files to an email, find the file you want to submit on your computer, select it, and click "Open".

If you need to add a second file, you may click "Add Another File".  You can also leave a comment for your professor in the comments box.  When you are ready, click "Submit Assignment".

To verify that your assignment has been submitted, a notification will appear in the upper right hand corner of the screen after the assignment has been submitted.

  • If the assignment was submitted late, it will be marked in red.

  • Below the submission notification, you will see an option which will allow you to resubmit your assignment as long as the availability date has not passed.
