- Submitting a website url or a file upload
Chemists study many thousands of natural substances from the earth's crust, the atmosphere, and the oceans, as well as synthetic substances produced in their laboratories. In order to simplify the task of learning about all of these different materials, scientists have developed classification schemes.

As we discussed in class, concept mapping Links to an external site. includes selecting terms, ranking concepts, arranging concepts in clusters, and linking concepts according to a cognitive scheme.
You can draw your concept map by hand, or use bubbl.us Links to an external site., Excel, or other diagramming software.
Remember: your concept map should include nodes for each of the terms, appropriate connectors, and labels for each connectors.
In this activity you will create a concept map Links to an external site. that diagrams the relationships among the following ideas:
- seafloor spreading
- contintental drift
- continental crust
- convection currents
- failed arms
- lithosphere
- magma
- mid-ridge crust
- new sea
- ocean basin
- oceanic crust
- plates
- rifts
- rift arms
- volcanic activity
