Lucidchart Information

Lucidchart

Lucidchart is a web application for creating and sharing diagrams.  This page contains information on how to access Lucidchart, create diagrams, share your work with your teammates, and download and publish diagrams.

Accessing Lucidchart

Go to https://www.lucidchart.com Links to an external site. to access the application.  An account has been created for everyone in the class.  Your username should be your BC email address.  You should have received an email with a temporary password, but if you can't find it, click on Forgot your password.  Please let me know if you can't log in and I can resend the invitation.

Creating Diagrams

You click Create to create a new diagram.  Usually you will want to click on the UML category and choose Blank UML.  This will create a blank diagram and select the appropriate shape libraries for UML diagramming.  You can also choose to start from one of the example diagrams.  To build your diagram, you can drag shapes from the various shape libraries shown in the left-hand column.  Each shape can be resized and its properties changed.

Lucidchart includes a number of Tutorials that can get you started quickly.  You may want to check out:

When drawing UML diagrams you will want to scroll down to the UML libraries.  Note that there are separate libraries for different kinds of UML diagrams.

Publishing or Sharing Diagrams

As you work on a diagram you will want to share it with your teammates.  This allows everyone to view and collaboratively edit the diagrams.  You can do this from the Share menu when editing the diagram or from the Documents page which lists existing diagrams.  Be sure to see the Tutorial on how to Share files and folders Links to an external site. for a complete walk through.  Note that you can share with your entire team by entering the Group name for your team which will be of the form Section X Team Y.  Note that Lucidchart has a number of features to facilitate collaboration and I encourage you to explore them.  For example, see the Tutorial on how to add comments to your diagrams Links to an external site..

You will want to be able to incorporate your diagram into pages on Canvas (for team assignments) and eventually into your final deliverables.  There are a number of ways to do this and you can look at the Import, Download, and Publish Links to an external site. tutorials to see a range of options.  The easiest way is probably to download your diagram as an image Links to an external site. (use the download option on the File menu and choose the PNG format).  You can insert that image into a Word or Powerpoint document.  To insert into a Canvas page, upload that image (using the Images tab on the right of the Edit Page screen in Canvas), and then insert it into the page.

Here is an example of what such an image will look like in Canvas:
